Expressive therapies are creative ways to support your healing and wellbeing.

At SECASA, we have qualified Art and Music therapists to help people explore their experiences in safe ways. You do not need to have any previous art or music knowledge to participate!

Art Therapy

Art therapy involves using creative materials to explore thoughts, feelings and experiences. It focuses on expression, not artistic skill.

Art therapists work in a range of ways where you are supported to use art materials and creative techniques to explore a particular topic, issue or even a free-choice art making activity.

Some common art activities include:

  • Mark Making

  • Sensory-based activities

  • Bilateral drawing

  • Play-based activities

  • Painting

  • Collage

  • Sculpture

  • Mindful art making


Music Therapy

Music therapy is a research-based practice and profession in which music is used to actively support people as they strive to improve their health, functioning, wellbeing and quality of life. Music therapists incorporate a range of music making methods within a therapeutic relationship. Music therapy is different from music education and entertainment.  Music therapists are committed to supporting people of any age and ability regardless of musical skill, culture or background.

An individual or group music therapy session may include:

  • Developing music based resources and coping tools to use outside of sessions

  • Making music by playing an instruments or singing

  • Song writing, lyrics writing, song composition

  • Music for relaxation and stress relief

  • Listening to live or recorded music

  • Therapeutic music lessons

  • Sharing songs, song discussion, lyric analysis and music based counselling

  • Discussions around helpful and unhelpful uses of music
