SECASA counsellor/advocates are social workers and psychologists who provide support that focuses on client needs and strengths. We support our clients by working together to create strategies to address the impacts of sexual assault and family violence and improve wellbeing. SECASA also provides advocacy for our clients.
We work from a Victims’ Rights Framework, supporting choice, control and involvement in decision-making.
SECASA can also provide support for affected family members and carers.
The experience of sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse or family violence can have far reaching effects on a person’s life, sense of identity and wellbeing. A person’s life may be affected in an ongoing way, with feelings and symptoms often surfacing at times of stress or during life transitions.
We have resources on our Understanding sexual assault, trauma and recovery about sexual assault, family violence, impacts and recovery.
At SECASA, counselling can involve talking about your experiences, understanding how they are affecting you, and finding ways to cope. We also offer art and music therapy, brief intervention and a groups program.
SECASA acknowledges the Bunurong/Boonwurrung and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung peoples, the Traditional Custodians and Owners of the lands where our programs operate. We pay our respects to their culture and their Elders past, present and future.
We work with people from all genders, sexualities and cultural backgrounds.
We can arrange an interpreter for you. Please let our admin team know which language you require when you call.
We have specialist portfolios to support older adults and people with a disability who have experienced sexual assault and/or family violence.
We support victim-survivors aged 4 and above of sexual assault and family violence. We also support affected and impacted family members and support people.
