Counselling for sexual assault and/or family violence

SECASA counsellor/advocates are social workers and psychologists who provide support that focuses on client needs and strengths. We support our clients by working together to create strategies to address the impacts of sexual assault and family violence and improve wellbeing. SECASA also provides advocacy for our clients.

We work from a Victims’ Rights Framework, supporting choice, control and involvement in decision-making.

SECASA can also provide support for affected family members and carers.

How can counselling help?

The experience of sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse or family violence can have far reaching effects on a person’s life, sense of identity and wellbeing. A person’s life may be affected in an ongoing way, with feelings and symptoms often surfacing at times of stress or during life transitions.

We have resources on our Understanding sexual assault, trauma and recovery about sexual assault, family violence, impacts and recovery.

What does counselling involve?

At SECASA, counselling can involve talking about your experiences, understanding how they are affecting you, and finding ways to cope. We also offer art and music therapy, brief intervention and a groups program.

Who can access sexual assault and/or family violence counselling at SECASA?
